Welcome to your Netflix Streaming Report for January 7, 2016. After the long week you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix Watch Instant has been kind enough to supply us with New Girl, We Need to Talk About Kevin, It’s Always Sunny, and many more.

We Need to Talk About Kevin (Lynne Ramsay) Rated R [1h 52min] – Kevin’s mother struggles to love her strange child, despite the increasingly vicious things he says and does as he grows up. But Kevin is just getting started, and his final act will be beyond anything anyone imagined. Starring Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly, and Ezra Miller

For anyone with children, We Need to Talk About Kevin is a haunting, surreal look at nurture versus nature. This film was one of my favorites back in 2011 and its terrifying story remains with me today. This is what I wrote about it then and still believe it today, “This is by far one of the most chilling tales you’ll ever watch. Think of what may have happened if we saw Rosemary raising her baby.”

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 10

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 10) (Rob McElhenney) Rated TV-MA [22 min] Four young friends with big egos and slightly arrogant attitudes are the proprietors of an Irish bar in Philadelphia. Starring Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito

Not sure how this wacky TV family is still on TV, but I’m glad they are. I haven’t caught up on this show since I cease to believe FXX is a real thing, so I’m glad there’s a platform in which I can keep up with the show. Who honestly has FXX?

New Girl Seaosn 4

New Girl (Season 4) (Elizabeth Meriwether) Rated TV-14 [22 min] – After a bad break-up, Jess, an offbeat young woman, moves into an apartment loft with three single men. Although they find her behavior very unusual, the men support her – most of the time. Starring Jake Johnson, Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone, and Damon Wayans Jr.

I like New Girl, but not enough to keep up with it week to week. Thankfully we have Netflix in order to binge entire seasons of it. I’m looking forward to seeing how Jessica Biel plays a role in Jess’ life.

Across the Universe

Across the Universe (Julie Taymor) Rated PG-13 [2h 13min] – The music of the Beatles and the Vietnam War form the backdrop for the romance between an upper-class American girl and a poor Liverpudlian artist. Starring Evan Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess, and Joe Anderson

I haven’t seen this movie in at least six years, the reason being is because I became inherently sick of hearing its soundtrack. Flashback to college, I introduced Across the Universe to my friends and they played the film/soundtrack non-stop for an entire semester while I suffered across the hall listening to it blare on their sound system morning, noon, and night. It’s a rather enjoyable movie from what I remember of it, but I don’t think I can still watch it to this day.

Galaxy Quest (Dean Parisot) Rated PG [1hr 42min] – The alumni cast of a space opera television series have to play their roles as the real thing when an alien race needs their help. Starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shaloub, and Sam Rockwell

Never give up. Never surrender!

Pee-wee's big adventure bike

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (Tim Burton) Rated PG [1h 31min] – When eccentric man-child Pee-Wee Herman gets his beloved bike stolen in broad daylight, he sets out across the U.S. on the adventure of his life. Starring Paul Reubens, Elizabeth Daily, and Mark Holton

Speaking of movies that haunted me. Pee-wee’s Big Adventure has two moments that stick out to me. The first being Pee-wee’s moment at the Texas bar, and the second being, of course, large Marge, the most horrifying thing a child could see. I highly encourage you to share this movie with your kids too!

Pride and prejudice

Source: BuzzFeed

Pride & Prejudice (2005) (Joe Wright) Rated PG [2h 9min] – Sparks fly when spirited Elizabeth Bennet meets single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy. But Mr. Darcy reluctantly finds himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class. Can each overcome their own pride and prejudice? Starring Keira Knightley, Matthew Macfadyen, and Brenda Blethyn

The narrative alone is enough to bore me to tears, let alone the film being a period piece. But I kind of want to rewatch this movie with the inevitable release of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies this year.
